Conferencing Technology: Changing The Way The World
Works
The world is changing fast. Video conferencing
technology can be used in many different ways and without the terrible lag and jerkiness that was
prevalent when this technology first came out. Because of the dramatic changes in this technology, you can
communicate with loved ones across the world via your desktop with live streaming, visit grandma and grandpa at
Christmas without leaving your home or meet a client face to face in states across the country or across the
globe.
Perhaps one of the biggest changes is in business
settings. Web conferencing is becoming more and more popular among
businesses. The reasons for this are plentiful, but there are two big reasons for the popularity of this method of
communication. First of all, there is a budget issue; if you have a client in China that
you need to meet with, then video conferencing technology makes it possible without ever getting on a
plane. Another reason is convenience. When a group business people want to get together but they can't get their
schedules coordinated, then a video conference is an excellent way to meet as needed. Video conferencing can also
be used in a group setting, for example at a board meeting where the head of a company wants to address his
employees but can't physically be there.
However, business is not the only place where this
technology can shine. Video
conferencing technology can also be used for instructional purposes in the classroom. Imagine introducing your
students to a soldier in Afghanistan or a classroom in China! This can be done with ease and your students can
speak to people around the world while learning important cultural and geographical lessons. There are those that
even believe that the time will come when students learn from home while their teachers video conference with
them.
While virtual classrooms may be a bit far off, the truth is
that you can accomplish a lot with a telepresence. This is good for your business, good for your personal life and
great for students as well!
